First Look: Bear & Son 778SR Sideliner Knife

by Braxton Taylor

Bear And Son Cutlery has just introduced another folding knife that is geared toward outdoor power users, the new Bear & Son 778SR Sideliner Knife.

This new rugged, hard-use outdoor pocketknife measures 7¼ inches long when fully opened and the blade is held in place by the tried and true liner-lock mechanism. The 778SR Sideliner is all about being extremely utilitarian in the field, as it’s designed with a 3¼-inch-long combination serrated blade that also features a drop-point profile. This blade is made from 440 stainless steel and has a grip made from Zytel, a high impact thermoplastic material originally developed by Du Pont which displays incredible strength to weight ratios. The exterior of the Sideliner’s handle is textured for a secure grip in any outdoor condition and the knife also has a stainless steel pocket clip.

The ubiquitous drop-point profile is a favorite for outdoorsmen and hunters as it is very versatile and works for a wide variety of cutting tasks including skinning game and cleaning fish. The drop point tapers and converges near the middle line of the blade, and for precise cutting tasks, the user can use index pressure on the top near the front to carefully guide it. This point also facilitates piercing through different mediums when needed.
