First Look: Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0 Pistol

by Braxton Taylor

New for 2024, Smith & Wesson is releasing the second generation of its popular SD9 9mm polymer frame striker fired handgun, the new Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0.

Like the original Smith & Wesson SD9 9mm pistol and the earlier models that came before these, the new SD9 2.0 is the value-proposition pistol in the Smith and Wesson lineup. The new SD9 2.0 comes with a very accessible suggested retail price of only $350. Like its predecessor, it also keeps its signature two-tone stainless-steel slide against a black polymer grip and frame. As this is an entry level pistol, it lacks factory optics cuts in order to keep costs low, but it does come with a new and improved Smith and Wesson bladed safety trigger similar to the one standard on most Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 pistols. The new SD9 2.0 also has a dust cover with length of Picatinny rail in order to accept detachable accessories such as tactical lights.

This basic striker-fired semi-automatic pistol has a compact frame size with a standard magazine of 16 rounds and a 4-inch barrel. Although it’s a double stack pistol, its overall size is friendly for EDC (every day carry) and it has a grip size should fit the hands of most shooters.
