First Shots: Ruger SR1911 Lightweight

by Braxton Taylor

The new SR1911 Lightweight from Ruger gives you the classic 1911 feel you want, with a lighter weight aluminum frame. The precise CNC-controlled machining processes Ruger uses to create the SR1911 results in a superior slide-to-frame fit and smooth slide travel, while the positive barrel lock-up allows for superior accuracy out of the box.

The SR1911 Lightweight has a traditional design with removable grip panels and checkered backstrap. A skeletonized trigger provides a very crisp, no creep, light trigger pull with a quick, positive reset. The skeletonized hammer and titanium firing pin give you faster lock time, while the oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. There is also an extended thumb safety and slide-stop lever for improved, positive manipulation.

The oversize ejection port and extended magazine release enhance performance, while the inspection port cut into the slide allows for visual confirmation of a loaded or empty chamber. The frame has a flat mainspring housing and rear slide serrations for a positive grip.

The SR1911 Lightweight accepts most standard aftermarket 1911 parts and accessories and includes two stainless steel magazines and a bushing wrench.
